Working from your laptop
The Mac can live in the closet while you, your editor and your agent work on
a laptop. Install the CLI there too, but don't run init: use the Homebrew
formula on a Mac that meets the requirements, or
go install github.com/dps/berth/cmd/berth@latest anywhere else Go runs
(Intel Macs and Linux included). Then tell it where the Mac is:
export [email protected] # whatever name ssh knows the Mac by
berth status
Every berth command then runs on the Mac over SSH, attached to your
terminal, so prompts, berth logs -f and berth run shells all work. You
need Remote Login on the Mac (System Settings → General → Sharing) and SSH
keys, so there's no password prompt.
Inside an app's repo, the berth git remote does the same job as
BERTH_HOST, so an agent working there doesn't need anything set. berth new
adds it; for an existing clone, run berth git:remote myapp once in the repo.
A few commands do their work on the laptop instead: berth new and
dev:push (they need the files here), upgrade, git:remote (it adds the
remote here), admin (it opens your browser here), and config:import,
which sends the laptop's .env. Any other path you pass, as in
berth pg:restore db dump.sql, is a path on the Mac.
